Bishop Robert M. Moody of Oklahoma addressed his diocese regarding the participation of two Oklahoma-affiliated bishops—William Wantland and William Cox—in the Akron service.
Calling the act “constitutional and canonical disobedience,” Moody noted Wantland (a canon lawyer) surely understood its gravity, while Cox’s involvement surprised both Moody and his rector, David Fox.
Moody urged prayers—for repentance, healing, and restraint from further “covert actions.”
He confirmed that the House of Bishops would consider formal responses at Camp Allen, possibly including censure or presentment leading to ecclesiastical trial.
LONDON: WILLIAMS WRITES GRISWOLD AS HOB MEETS IN TEXAS
In an exclusive report, Virtuosity revealed that Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams sent a strongly worded letter to Presiding Bishop Griswold on the eve of the Texas meeting.
Described by a Lambeth Palace source as “too hot to leak,” the letter reportedly urged Griswold to make significant compromises with orthodox voices—or risk schism without Canterbury’s support.
A source indicated the letter may implicitly endorse the Akron confirmations as a justified response to pastoral abandonment.
Griswold had not yet shared the letter with the full House of Bishops at time of reporting.
