Archbishop-elect Sarah Mullally Must Resign for Safeguarding Failures

December 15, 2025

A petition on Change.org argues that Sarah Mullally should resign for safeguarding failures. It has been posted by the Rev. Fr. Paul Williamson.

Williamson argues that as Bishop of London, she kept a file of false sexual allegations about the Rev. Alan Griffin for two years, which later resulted in his taking his own life. Coroner Mary Hassell confirmed this, and Mullally did not investigate to discover the truth of these allegations. She then broke the law by passing on Rev. Alan Griffin's file, which contained medical notes showing he had contracted HIV and had made two suicide attempts. Additionally, she stated that the police were investigating him, which was not true. He was truly vulnerable.

"He could not cope. There was no pastoral or professional support provided. He committed suicide," Williamson stated.

"This is the most appalling safeguarding—and failure of 'duty of care'—I have ever come across," said Williamson.

"This is a complete meltdown of episcopal responsibility. No apology will bring this priest back to life. Mullally is a risk to clergy and must be stopped from taking office in the Church. Sarah Mullally must not be in charge of any clergy ever again."

"We have a real chance of success—to vote her out—when we reach 10,000!"

"Sarah Mullally must not go to Canterbury and should resign from London. She is not 'fit for purpose' as a bishop in the Church of God with care of clergy. Fr. Alan Griffin is in his coffin. There is only one person who is ultimately responsible."
