According to a local blogger, the Bishop is now being told that there is no firm date to leave. When asked if they will leave, the answer is, "Not Yet." Canon Bennett indicated that this is like one spouse saying to another, "I will not divorce you yet."

There was also an attempt to "buy out'" the Bishop [John W. Howe] or give him a "golden parachute" to retire in an attempt to take the Diocese out of the Episcopal Church according to the blogger.

The Rector and Vestry have been negotiating with the Diocese of the Rio Grande in an effort to reach an agreement to present to the congregation for its approval on September 16.

In a parish vote Sunday, 460 voted 'yea' and 41 voted 'nay' to approve an agreement with the diocese to pay the $2 million which settles the claims by the diocese and allows St. Clements to leave with its property.

While there are some 130 million non-church going Americans (many of whom are Christians who have just dropped out of organized religion), the new American-based African controlled bishops are depending on their initial existence by picking off thriving Episcopal parishes, most of whom will not be permitted to stay in their present buildings if they leave The Episcopal Church.

Malango: First of all, let me say the province is intact. We have not fallen apart or cracked up as one African newspaper reported we had. However, we have decided that come January of 2008 we will become three new provinces and we have set the wheels in motion to do that.
