September 25 2005 By virtueonline CANADA: National Canada Anglicans won't change policy on gays

But Archbishop Andrew Hutchison, head of Canadian Anglicans, made clear that his Church was not ready to switch tack to meet the wishes of Nigerian Archbishop Peter Akinola, whose country is home to a quarter of the world's Anglicans.

"I think what he was really hoping for was that Canada would say what we did was dead wrong, and we're going to stop all conversation about this, and so on," Hutchison told Reuters. "It's not a realistic hope."

September 24 2005 By virtueonline Letter to English House of Bishops

While individuals are free under civil law to register partnerships, given the ambiguity in the legislation and because they are bound to be seen as a form of gay "marriage", it would be inadvisable for Christians to enter them if only to avoid causing scandal.

Until about six months ago, Robinson remained optimistic the Anglican Communion would work through initial outrage over his election to respect the customary right of dioceses to elect the bishop of their choosing.

But at a private meeting of American bishops in Los Angeles several months ago, Robinson said, he first sensed what he considers a conservative power grab.

By stating that people are free to argue for a change in the current teaching of the Church they are encouraging error (which they have sworn to drive out) and demonstrating that they do not truly believe what they claim to uphold. It is clear to everyone, including Anglicans in other parts of the world, that in this statement the House of Bishops has finally come clean.

We welcome:

* Its restatement of Christian teaching on marriage
