Gay Clergy on Plate for Presbyterians

Presbyterians have examined the issues and some of them have decided that having gay clergy is acceptable. They join many Episcopalians and members of the United Church of Christ on this issue.
On the other hand, given the divisions that are continuing to disrupt some congregations on this matter, it is likely the Presbyterians will be getting some flak from members.
On January 27, 2009 a news release from the Presbyterians announced that six Presbyteries had voted yes on a constitutional amendment towards allowing gay and lesbian ordination after 30 years of debating it. The Presbyterians that voted affirmative towards allowing it included Des Moines, Northern Kansas, Newton, New Jersey, Baltimore, Albany and New Castle. The votes were taken on January 17 of this year.
On January 27, five more presbyteries voted, including: Utica (NY), Carlisle (PA), Palisades (NJ), Donegal (PA), and San Fernando (CA) and, on January 31, four more will cast their ballots: Southern Kansas, Western North Carolina, Huntingdon (PA), and Cayuga-Syracuse (NY). Results of these votes will soon be announced.
Past practice required gay and lesbian couples to be celibate but did not require the same of married ministers. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church passed an amendment in June of 2008 eliminating that ban on gay candidates. The legislation won't take effect until the final vote of the presbyteries. Over half of them will vote by the end of February.

If they're smart, they'll toss this stinking dead fish into the garbage can where it belongs, and let it rot.

The source for this story has quite a bias. The facts are the PCUSA Presbyteries have been voting down such biennial decisions by the General Assembly in ever increasing majorities since the 90's. All the original reporter tells is about a cluster of like minded Presbyteries who arranged to vote for just such a story to be published. By the way, as a former Episcopalian, I must say what a relief it is to not have non Orthodox Bishops to contend with anymore in church governance.

The story refers to The Presbyterian Church USA, the largest and most liberal of US Presbyterian denominations. There are alternative orthodox believing Presbyterian denominations such as The Presbyterian Church in America, The Associate Reformed Prebyterian Church, The Orthodox Presbyterian Church,The Bible Presbyterian Church,The Free Presbyterian Church and The Reformed Presbyterian Church. Some congregations of the PCUSA have left that denomination or have tried to (with insuing litigation) in the past few years. Some PCUSA members have joined congregations of the aformentioned alternative denominations or started new congregations. Most PCUSA members have no knowledge of what is occuring in their denomination and many of their ministers are afraid to tell them. I have advised PCUSA affiliated relatives and friends to seek sound alternatives. Fr. Baring-Gould +

Andrew Doyle, Bishop of Texas, has no plans to remove the Diocese from TEC, so while I have not yet decided to leave, I am looking around. It looks like I will need to scratch the Presbyterians off of my list.

Are these fools serious? Look at what gay clergy have done for TEC and the Roman Catholic Church.
