As Eye See It : LAMBETH: South Carolina Bishop Not Sanguine about his Dioceses' Future

LAMBETH: South Carolina Bishop Not Sanguine about his Dioceses' Future

by Mark Lawrence
http://www.dioceseofsc.org/mt/archives/000363.html

CANTERBURY: I am glad I came here for this Lambeth and worshipped one last time in the Cathedral home of Augustine and Dunstan, Anselm and Becket, Cranmer and Laud, Temple and Ramsay. I had come to speak a word of hope and perhaps to intervene on behalf of our beloved, but in the last resolve the family refused the long needed measures. So he just slipped away, our noble prince, one dreary morning in Canterbury with hardly even a death rattle.

The new prince was born last month in Jerusalem. I was there-arriving late, departing early. I was never quite sure what I was witnessing. It was an awkward and messy birth. He hardly struck me as I gazed upon him there in the bassinet as quite ready to be heir to the throne. I even wondered at times if there might be some illegitimacy to his bloodlines. But that I fear was my over wedded ness to a white and European world. May he live long, and may his tribe increase-and may he remember with mercy all those who merely mildly neglected his birth.

As for me my role for now is clear, to hold together as much as I can for as long as I can that when he comes to his rightful place on St. Augustine's throne in Canterbury Cathedral he will have a faithful and richly textured kingdom.

---The Rt. Rev. Mark Lawrence is Bishop of South Carolina

True words, both terrible and sweet.

Someone has just moved himself into the cross-hairs of the sights of the Red Queen!

Quite a whimsical fellow, at that!

This Canadian hopes one day to meet the cogent Bishop Lawrence!

Protect him, Lord!

Very poignant words....and also prophetic.

I've had occasion to get to know this diocese to some extent, and if there's one that could show the way to all the others, this might be it. I haven't met this new bishop, but he certainly makes a good impression. Let's pray for him and a new group of leaders like him to cleanse and restore what has been defiled.

+Mark's reputation as a rector in Bakersfield is an excellent one, and we were pleased when he was elected.....for the second time.....to be Bishop of South Carolina. The people of that diocese are very fortunate indeed that he is their bishop.

Hear, Hear! (cennydd)
Oh! that all Bishops would actually be the leaders God has called them to be, rather than lackeys for the "815" political machine (sorry, but that really is what TEC has become, a huge PAC for LGBT and new age spiritualism).

I've known Mark Lawrence since he was rector of St. Stephen's, McKeesport, PA (he married my wife and I 20 years ago) and he has always been a faithful follower of the Lord and leader of His sheep.

Bless you, Bishop Lawrence, and may the Lord protect you and yours in the days ahead.

You can always tell those men who are truly called to the apostolic ministry. +Mark is such a man. He is guided by the Holy Spirit. I know he will do the right thing when the time comes.

God's blessings upon Bishop Lawrence and the Diocese of South Carolina.
