Diocese of San Joaquin: Bishop to Interlopers, "Stay out of my Diocese"
February 19, 2008
Response to the Interim Pastoral Presence
The following are identical letters to Canon Cox and Canon Moore.
February 15, 2008
It is my understanding that you have been hired by the Presiding Bishop's Office to be a part of an interim pastoral presence with oversight in the Diocese of San Joaquin. This fact indicates one of the two things: 1) You do not believe that the Diocese was capable of removing itself from TEC in December 2007, and therefore you are intruding into the internal affairs of a recognized TEC diocese; or, 2) You do believe this diocese left TEC in 2007 and you are entering into the internal affairs of a diocese of another province.
In either case, at present, The Episcopal Church has begun attacking both me and this diocese. Your coming here is unconscionable in that you are meddling in the affairs of San Joaquin with neither the courtesy of requesting my permission as bishop nor even troubling to inform me of your plans. Such actions are hardly those of men with honorable intentions.
Even though you have already taken it upon yourself to be in contact with clergy and parishes, under no circumstances are you welcome to hold meetings in this diocese or to ask permission of clergy or other leaders to do so.
If indeed your proposal is to seek reconciliation with the goal to reduce the "threat of law suits" you are approaching the wrong persons. Why do you not come directly to me with your concerns and offers, for such lawsuits - presumably - would be lodged against me?
Should you choose to deal directly with me concerning the above mentioned proposals I would be willing to set aside time to meet with you in my office in Fresno. Apart from this, I ask you to desist from entering this diocese.
I remain, In earnest,
+John-David Schofield

Ikerliker, I am going to make this clear to Schori and Company, their legal beagle, and anyone they send into this diocese:
This interference in our diocese is illegal, unwarranted, and unconscionable. It is also not the hallmark of a true Christian Church. You have overstepped your authority, and you are interfering in a foreign province.....something which you yourselves have railed against! Mind you, I cannot claim to speak for our diocese; I am speaking for myself. I regard any attack directed against my bishop as an attack against all of us. Cennydd |

ONE MORE TIME:
The canons for thee, and not for me. I do not have to follow the canons, because I am (I embody) the canons. Divine right of Presiding Bishops, anyone? |

Bishop Schofield in his very own subtle way has basically put it forth to the border crossers that are crying "Border crossing!, Border crossing!" which puts them in a position to have to defend themselves against that which they are decrying to AB Williams.
Bishop John-David never made a huge stink about Tim Vivian, a priest from Bruno's diocese, living in Bakersfield and building a home mission episcopal church there without permission from our Bishop for three years. But these liberal lefties cry border crossing to the faithful who have legally voted to realign with a Province that teaches, preaches, and evangelizes the Word once received in the tradition of better than 2000 years? Please!!!! Then they have the audacity to come into our diocese and claim to have a right to go into churches that are still considered in the Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin and approach them and the clergy???? By who's authority? It seems these people just make up the rules as they go along to suit their fancy. |

TeriLyn, something else bothers me. Do you remember when Bonnie Anderson, the President of the House of Deputies, said to those who wanted to remain with TEC "you are not alone, and we will never leave you alone?" I recall reading that several months ago.
I hate to say it, but the time is coming....it may already be here....when we may have to wonder about some of the strangers coming into our congregations. Are they "plants" sent to influence our people? I'd give them the benefit of a doubt and say "no, I don't think so." I think the answer is that we simply have to trust that they are faithful Anglican Christians and take them at their word. Cennydd |

Cennydd,
Funny you should mention "plants" in churches. My husband and I thought for sure we had some at the Cathedral during an Advent Service. It was a weird experience as they both never knelt for prayer or really participated in the service, nor did they partake of communion. Infact the lady got up and went to the Narthex during communion to make a call and then was back just before the procession hymn out was to be sung. Never saw them before nor again. I prayed real hard that the Lord would touch their hearts and bless them. I can only continue to pray that that couple and anyone else that may come to our church as a plant would be touched by God with something in that service and have a Holy Spirit Conviction experience that makes them stop dead in their tracks and turn to receive the true love and grace of Jesus Christ and walk in His ways and to His glory only. I do remember Bonnie Anderson saying that and I do believe that she said it again this last time in Hanford. As well as, assuring the Remain Episcopal's that there would be assisting funds for legal expenses. But, I have faith and trust in the Lord. I trust Him more than the likes of Bonnie Anderson and those that put their trust in her, KJS or TEC as a whole. |

We do need to reach out and invite the stranger in our midst to share with us, and trust that they are indeed faithful witnesses for Christ. Those who are not will be known by their words and actions soon enough.
