News : SWEDEN: Priests Will Ignore Church Decision to Bless Gay Unions

Swedish priests will ignore Church decision

Church of England Newspaper

December 2, 2005

Over 800 priests of the Church of Sweden have repudiated the Swedish Church Assembly decision to bless gay unions, saying they it is contrary to the word of God and that they will "resist the new order".

On October 27, the Kyrkomötet, the Swedish Church Assembly, voted to amend its prayer book, changing the section on "Marriage" to "Marriage and Blessings" and appointed a committee to draw up the appropriate rites, as we reported on November 2.

"As priests, we are bound by the promises of faithfulness to Holy Scripture and to the confession of the church which we made at our ordination. We therefore totally reject this order," the Nov 1 declaration, endorsed by 863 of Sweden's 5000 active and retired clergy, stated.

The author of the declaration, the Rev Yngve Kalin, pastor of Hyssna in Southern Sweden, told The Church of England Newspaper the protest was "unique in the history of our Church" drawing support from "various traditions, from North to South, [and] men and women" in support.

"We are going to resist the new order," he said. "We do not recognise it. We do not believe in it. We are not going to comply," he noted, adding "We will work to have it repealed" with the support of "ecumenical partners here at home in Sweden and abroad" and "reveal the fragile foundation of this new order and persevere in showing how the word of God should be read, understood and interpreted."

Thank God, that there are men and women who will stand up for Him to teach His truth.

Christians can bless and endow with their love and support deep friendship between any two people on this earth. They cannot bless and support deviant and perverted and filthy sexual practices - for the sake of society, for the sake of our children, and for the sake of the people who are drawn to them.

And so the worldwide schism continues...

What we are now seeing is a worldwide revolt against the Loon Left and their hell-bent efforts to destroy the Church. These brave clergy in Sweden are simply following in the footsteps of others who are resisting the lunacy of Christian's blessing homosexual men and women "marrying."

This is a time for the Church to rejoice! We are in the throes of a powerful reformation of Christ's Church. Pope Benedict XVI is a man for the times - conservative, compassionate, strong, forthright. We have Akinola, Orombi, Duncan, and Venables in the Anglican Communion. God is raising up these leaders for such a time as this.

Rejoice, the Lord is King!

You're right, Jim, but you should have said the Church and Western society!

The acquittal of that brave Christian minister in Sweden for having dared to preach Christian sexual morality seems to have emboldened many others.

He has led the charge, and brave men are daring to follow.

With Christian love!

Pastor Kalin has said it right! The clerical residents of the Loony Bin and their followers in the sheepfold are in deep, deep trouble.....and they damned well know it! The boiling cauldrons of Hell are ready for them, and the Devil and his imps are ready with their stirring spoons!

I was surprised to see the word "priests" used in connection with the Church of Sweden. The English version of the Church of Sweden web site says that it is an "evengelical Lutheran" church, and it speaks of the "presbyterate(priesthood)." Why doesn't it translate "presbyter" as "elder" or something similar? The term "priest" has connotations that don't seem to fit well with Protestant theology.

Maybe it is just a matter of translation, but I had to check to see whether the church mentioned was Lutheran or whether there was some Anglican church in Sweden calling itself the "Church of Sweden."

Really, I think churches should be required to state their denominational affiliations in their names.

Virtually every church, and I use that term loosely, that goes down the revisionist road is in utter decline. The article on the Anglican Church of Canada is most instructive in this matter not to mention the loss of membership in the ECUSA. It is good to see that these Swedish priest are standing up for the word of God. It is also good to see that they are practical people who recognize the dangers of civil unions and gay marriages. (After all, they are closer to the Netherlands than we in North America are and they can't miss the tremendous destruction of marriage that is underway in that ignorant country.)

Re: Swedish priests will ignore Church decision
The Church of Sweden is remarkably similar to the Church of England. It claims to have retained the apostolic episcopal succession, and was the state church until very recently, when disestablishment took place. Other churches in Sweden are very tiny minorities, so it makes no sense to demand that the CoS "state its denominational affiliation" - it is the Church of Sweden, even if nobody attends these days. And that is hardly surprising, given the domination of the CoS by the Loonies since the mid-1950s.
