Hindu statesman Zed participated in Episcopal Rector installation in Nevada

November 27, 2009

In a remarkable interfaith gesture, clergy belonging to various religions/denominations participated in the installation ceremony of new Rector Reverend Laurie Chappelle of Saint Catherine of Siena Episcopal Church in Reno (Nevada, USA) on November 22.

The Rt. Rev. Dan Edwards, Episcopal Bishop of Nevada, presided over the ceremony which was attended by clergy belonging to Jewish, Lutheran, Hindu, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), and International Community of Christ (ICC) religions/denominations; besides Episcopal; in Bishop Manogue Chapel.

In the picture taken on the occasion (sitting in the front row from left to right) are: Bishop Gene Savoy of ICC, Jewish rabbi Elizabeth Beyer, Lutheran pastor Ruth Hanusa, Jewish rabbi Myra Soifer, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, Bruce Brinkerhoff of LDS.

Leave it to Nevada. We all know their history. They'd ordain a rattlesnake if it was trendy enough. If you're going to pretend to ordain a female, why not allow Hindus and Jews and LDS to participate? Can't get any more illegitimate.

I suppose that means that there was no beef or pork at the reception lunch?

No meat regardless of who was there, eating meat isn't politically corrent any more, the animal spirits may be offended.

And the swirly that is western Anglicanism continues down the drain!

The demon of hell has a sure hand on the Nevada diocese.....what more could they want than to mix and match for every ceremony??? God spewed the Nevada diocese out of his mouth, and it shows.

Re: Hindu statesman Zed participated in Episcopal Rector ...
I frankly find this unremarkable as it is presented.

I was at an installation of an evangelical Episcopal rector some 11 years ago that was attended by both the local rabbi and Unitarian/Universalist minister, both of who were seated, vested, near the visiting Episcopal clergy. The sermon was a straightforward preaching of the Resurrection of Jesus and the Gospel. The fact that inter-religious clergy were treated with respect and hospitality did not diminish the orthodoxy of the event.

While I have little confidence that any such installation in Nevada would be orthodox, the presence of inter-religious guests does not necessarily suggest that this is the case.

Also note that the (non)story is from a Hindu web-site, that most likely does not understand how unremarkable this really is.

I'm sure that St Catherine was mightifully edified by this, as are we all.
