The Virtues of Virtue - by David Brooks
The Violence Against Women Act, which was passed in 1994, must have also played a role, focusing federal money and attention. But all of these efforts are part of a larger story. The decline in family violence is part of a whole web of positive, mutually reinforcing social trends. To put it in old-fashioned terms, America is becoming more virtuous. Americans today hurt each other less than they did 13 years ago. They are more likely to resist selfish and shortsighted impulses.

Brave New Schools
Parker says the officials had indicated they would agree to a notification policy then suddenly refused. He insists he has done nothing wrong and is willing to contest the charge rather than plea-bargain.
At a hearing Tuesday, Parker's trial date was set for Sept. 21.
The Lexington School Board contends Parker deliberately set out to be arrested and make national headlines.

The challenge of the transgendered: Judeo-Christian values
On the other hand, a transgendered individual is a person of one sex who dresses (or otherwise behaves) as a member of the other sex -- actions that directly conflict with core Judeo-Christian values.
It is remarkable that activists on behalf of gay and lesbian acceptance always include the transgendered. What, after all, do the transgendered, who are usually heterosexual men, have to do with gays and lesbians?

Inadequate ideologies - by Chuck Colson
When ideology begins to replace revealed truth as the basis for governing a society, you inevitably have the kind of polarization we have in America today, Reds vs. Blues. Ideology is a man-made political formulation for how people should live their lives together and is, therefore, from our perspective as Christians, inherently flawed. And it's dangerous when a society becomes so polarized over ideology that it lacks a frame of reference for agreeing on the common good.

When it was pointed out that Germans were not blowing up Poles to get back lost parts of East Prussia nor were Tibetans sending suicide bombers into Chinese cities to recover their country, such analogies were caricatured.
