The former Anglican Archbishop of the Southern Cone, the Most Rev. Gregory Venables was attacked and bound when he and his wife Sylvia arrived home from church on Sunday afternoon and disturbed thieves in the house.

They were beaten and tied me up but did not hurt Sylvia his wife, according to Venables.

"Having spent an hour ransacking the house and removing everything of value they left. It could have been much worse and God's presence was unmistakable and tangible to us, to them and to the multitude of police who came afterwards.

"Sylvia was magnificent as those who know her can imagine. Thanks for your prayers."

Bishop Venables a British-born Anglican bishop served as the Primate of the Southern Cone in South America from 2001 until 2010. He is at present diocesan bishop of Southern Argentina.
